Shopify Initiation 2026

Company Analysis

Note 23 to Shopify’s 2025 accounts says the company “operates in one single operating and reportable segment and manages segment performance and resource allocation based upon consolidated net income (loss).” Six months later, on 5 August 2026, Shopify’s earnings release introduced a new measure — net income excluding the impact of equity investments — on the grounds that third-party valuations “are not relevant to the fundamentals of our business and have little analytical or predictive value regarding our ability to drive operational results.” Both sentences are about the same line of the same income statement. In the March 2026 quarter Shopify earned $382 million from operations and reported a net loss of $581 million; three months later it earned $488 million and reported net income of $1,502 million. Operating income between the two quarters rose $106 million and the bottom line swung $2,083 million. This is a full institutional-grade equity research report on Shopify Inc.
