The one thing
Monday was the market’s best day since early August. The Nasdaq closed at a record 27,122.09 (+2.26%), the S&P 500 at 7,764.70 (+1.49%) and the SOX at 12,433.17 (+4.29%). The leaders were the CPU makers: Arm +17.16% to $322.90, Intel +12.14% to $121.78, AMD +9.95% to $615.52, crossing $1tn of market value in the session, the fourth US chipmaker to do so after Nvidia, Broadcom and Micron, and Qualcomm +9.29%. None of them disclosed anything on Monday. The coverage we found points to three things: a “CPU renaissance” argument that AI agents need far more general-purpose compute than chatbots, US–China talks in New York that Scott Bessent called “very successful”, and oil below $100. Arm’s “off the charts” demand comment, which several outlets credit for Monday’s jump, was made to CNBC on 16 September.
The financing thread moved the other way. Goldman Sachs started marketing a ~$1.1bn high-yield bond for a Blue Owl-sponsored data centre near Richmond, Virginia, leased entirely to CoreWeave. Early price talk is in the low-to-mid 9% range, with pricing expected on Wednesday. The same week that equity investors paid up for AI compute, credit investors are asking about 9% to lend against a CoreWeave lease. Futures were flat before the open (Nasdaq-100 −0.01%, S&P +0.09% per Yahoo at 09:45 BRT). Taipei hit a record intraday high and then gave most of it back; TSMC closed −0.81%. Intraday, 15:40 BRT: the CPU trade has cooled (Arm +2.64%, Intel +0.75%, AMD +0.62%, Qualcomm +0.95%) while memory leads (Micron +4.05% at $1,086.27) and Shopify adds another +7.40%. Meta is −0.26%. The SOX is +1.54%, the Nasdaq +0.43%, the 10-year at 4.96%. These are live quotes and will be stale by the time you read them.
Sector pulse: covered names with material news
Bars show the share of each sector’s covered names. A price move with no identified company news does not count, so Monday’s chip rally (Arm, Intel, AMD, Qualcomm, Marvell), Cloudflare’s +8.67% and the software rebound are left out. Counted: CoreWeave (lease-backed junk bond), Meta (Wells Fargo target, Muse at No. 1), Shopify (Muse checkout through Shop Pay) and SpaceX (Starship date correction). No covered name filed an 8-K, 6-K or prospectus on Monday; the only non-insider filing was an NYSE listing certification for Uber.
Overnight & last session
Semis & equipment
The CPU names re-rate without a filing: Arm +17%, Intel +12%, AMD +10% and past $1tn, Qualcomm +9%
Arm closed at $322.90 (+17.16%), its fifth gain in a row, on 12.93m shares, roughly double its one-month average. Intel closed at $121.78 (+12.14%), AMD at $615.52 (+9.95%, an all-time high; market value crossed $1tn intraday, a first), and Qualcomm at $194.23 (+9.29%), which reverses Friday’s −5.82%. Marvell gained 5.38%, Lam 4.92%, Applied Materials 4.42%, Synopsys 4.38%, Cadence 4.24% and KLA 3.94%. Nvidia (+2.30%) and Broadcom (+1.41%) lagged. CNBC described it as “a CPU kind of day”, pointing to the view that AI agents will need far more general-purpose processing than chatbots. Qualcomm is included because it is entering data-centre CPUs on Arm. Other drivers cited were the US–China talks, lower oil and the 10-year yield slipping below 5%. We found no release, filing or guidance change from any of the four companies on Monday.
The read: This is a narrative re-rating, not an earnings revision. Arm’s official AGI CPU outlook is still $1bn, with Rene Haas saying he is “more confident” of $2bn. That was said on 16 September and already priced last week. Intel’s supply comment (it can meet about half of CPU demand) is also from last week. For her Arm and Intel studies, the testable claim is the CPU-to-accelerator attach ratio in agentic workloads. Neither company has published it. If Nvidia’s Vera and the hyperscaler Arm chips (Graviton, Axion, Cobalt) take the incremental sockets, the x86 names are being paid for share they may not win. Next hard data point: AMD’s Q3 print. Before that, Micron on 30 September will show whether memory prices still have room while CPU makers claim the next leg of the spend.
Asia, Tuesday: The Taiex hit a record intraday high of 48,601.53, then closed at 47,800.17 (+0.17%) after four sessions up 4.85%. TSMC closed at NT$2,460 (−0.81%) after touching NT$2,510; its ADR had closed Monday at $445.14 (+2.41%). MediaTek rose 3.39% and ASE 4.52%; the memory names fell (Nanya −3.68%, Winbond −1.72%). Foreign investors bought a net NT$44.73bn. In Seoul the Kospi rose above 7,100 and then faded to 7,017.91 (+0.15%) on profit-taking before the Chuseok holiday. Samsung closed at ₩276,500 (+0.91%) and SK hynix at ₩1.84m (−1.50%). Japan was closed. Micron closed Monday at $1,043.96 (+2.77%).

A data centre leased to CoreWeave goes to the junk market: ~$1.1bn, price talk in the low-to-mid 9s
According to Bloomberg, a Goldman Sachs-led group began selling a roughly $1.1bn high-yield bond to fund construction of the Digital Drive campus near Richmond, Virginia. The campus is sponsored by affiliates of Blue Owl Capital, with Cedarwood and PowerHouse Data Centers. All 76MW of IT capacity is contracted to CoreWeave under a 15-year lease worth $2.94bn. Early yield talk is in the low-to-mid 9% range, and operations are expected to begin in 2027–2028. Investor calls are scheduled for Tuesday at 10:00 New York time, and the deal is expected to price on Wednesday. Bloomberg reported in August that Goldman was testing demand for about $1.15bn for this project. CoreWeave’s own $3.7bn convertible (2.875%, due 2033) settles today. CoreWeave closed Monday at $85.43 (+5.00%).
The read: By our arithmetic, the lease works out to about $196m a year, or ~$2.6m per MW per year, and the bond is about 37% of the total lease value. The ~9% coupon puts a market price on CoreWeave’s tenant credit, and it compares with the 2.875% on the convertible, which carries equity upside. It is the price of AI capacity when the tenant is not investment grade. Her CoreWeave study should record it as the first project-level cost of debt tied to a single CoreWeave lease. It is also a reading for the AI-bubble-radar tripwire on the levered periphery: watch whether it prices inside or outside the talk on Wednesday.
Cloudflare rose 8.67% to a 52-week high of $351.67 with no company news; coverage points to lower yields and its early-September OpenAI-model security product. The hyperscalers gained with the market: Amazon +1.87%, Alphabet +1.55%, Microsoft +1.59%. Oracle rose only 0.64% to $148.56, lagging the rally after Friday’s OpenAI cash-burn report. Vertiv (+0.59%) and GE Vernova (+0.63%) were also flat relative to the market. Bloomberg ran an opinion piece this morning noting that Nvidia trades below 17 times expected earnings, about half its 2025 multiple. That is commentary, not news.
SaaS & enterprise software
No company news. The sell-off partly reversed: Datadog +6.58% to $245.05, MongoDB +6.19% to $407.30, CrowdStrike +4.92%, Palo Alto +2.25%, Snowflake +2.09%. Salesforce (−0.63%), Workday (−1.01%) and HubSpot (−1.05%, a fifth straight fall) did not take part. The split fits the CPU day: infrastructure software that meters usage rallied, while seat-based application software did not.

Meta +11.3% as Wells Fargo lifts its target to $796 and the Muse agent tops Apple’s US App Store
Meta closed at $741.25 (+11.34%), up about 30% over three months. Wells Fargo analyst Ken Gawrelski maintained his Overweight rating and raised his target from $640 to $796, citing Muse Spark and the Muse assistant as evidence that Meta “now has a story to tell” on AI. Muse, the personal AI agent launched on 8 September, reached No. 1 on Apple’s US App Store. The Connect keynote is on Wednesday. Meta edged lower in pre-market trading on Tuesday, per Yahoo.
The read: An app-store rank is a download measure, not a revenue one. Meta has not given Muse usage or monetisation figures, and the download and active-user numbers circulating are third-party estimates we could not confirm. The question for her Digital Ads study is what Muse can earn. Shopify’s checkout deal (below) is the first sign of a transaction model alongside ads. Meta’s 2026 capex guide of $130–145bn is unchanged; if Connect adds a Muse usage number, that becomes the first datapoint for the return side.
Netflix +2.19%, Zeta +3.04%, Roku +0.45%, Trade Desk −0.29%: no company news.

Shopify lets Meta’s Muse agent check out through Shop Pay; shares +7.3%
Shopify said it is partnering with Meta so that the Muse AI agent can complete purchases in Shopify stores using Shop Pay (Investing.com). Shopify closed at $137.92 on Nasdaq (+7.33%) and C$193.38 in Toronto (+7.8%). We found no Shopify press release or 6-K giving terms, launch timing or economics.
The read: This is agentic checkout, the same idea as OpenAI’s earlier checkout integrations, now on the largest consumer AI distribution platform. For her Shopify study, Shop Pay is the monetisable piece: the question is whether agent-originated orders carry the same take rate as ordinary Shop Pay orders, and whether Meta shares in it. Nothing is disclosed yet, so log it as a distribution agreement without economics.
Uber filed an NYSE certification (listing of a debt series); Airbnb, Booking and Walmart moved less than 1% with no news.
Hardware & devices
No company news. Apple +0.85%, Dell +1.28%, Cisco +1.78%. Michael Dell and Apple’s Tim Cook are on the guest list for Thursday’s White House state dinner for Xi Jinping.

Correction: Starship Flight 14 is not flying today; SpaceX moved it to 28 September on 17 September
Yesterday’s edition and the ones before it listed Flight 14 for 22 September. On 17 September SpaceX posted that it is “now targeting” Monday 28 September, pending regulatory approval, with a 75-minute window opening at 08:15 EDT (09:15 BRT). No reason was given. The mission is unchanged: the first orbital attempt, 26 Starlink V3 satellites, and no tower catch. SpaceX closed Monday at $151.85 (−0.56%). Tesla closed at $375.30 (+3.03%) ahead of the 1 October Roadster reveal; Elon Musk is also on the state-dinner list.
The read: A six-day slip is ordinary for Starship. The earlier date was carried forward in this brief without being re-checked against SpaceX’s own post, so dates in the calendar below are now tied to primary sources where possible. For her SpaceX study, the date that matters is the 30 September deadline on the reported Google compute arrangement, two days after the new launch date.

Story worth owning
What CoreWeave’s money costs, layer by layer
This week gives two prices for CoreWeave’s capital from the same company. The convertible that settles today pays 2.875%, because buyers get equity upside. The lease-backed project bond is talked at about 9% for a single 76MW campus whose only revenue is a CoreWeave lease. Between them sit CoreWeave’s own high-yield notes, its GPU-backed delayed-draw loans and the vendor financing around its customers. Nobody independent has put the whole capital stack in one table with the cost of each layer, the collateral behind it and whose credit it really depends on (CoreWeave’s, or Microsoft’s, Meta’s and OpenAI’s behind CoreWeave).
The analysis: list every CoreWeave-linked financing from its filings and from third-party deals like Digital Drive, with amount, coupon or spread, maturity, collateral and the ultimate tenant. Set the weighted cost of that capital against the return on a contracted MW. Digital Drive gives one: about $2.6m of lease revenue per MW per year (our arithmetic from $2.94bn over 15 years and 76MW). The result is a spread between what a MW earns and what it costs to fund. That spread is the real margin of the neocloud model, and her CoreWeave study already has the backlog ($104.2bn) and capex ($35–39bn) to set it against. When the Digital Drive bond prices on Wednesday, the table has its first market-set data point.

All figures are as reported by companies, their SEC filings, or the news sources listed above. They have not been independently verified against audited statements. Monday 21 September closing prices come from end-of-day price history; Asia closes are Tuesday’s. This edition was compiled late, finishing at about 15:45 BRT, after the 10:30 BRT US open, so the intraday quotes marked 15:40 BRT are indicative and already stale. The Digital Drive bond terms come from Bloomberg and secondary accounts of it; the bond has not priced. The lease-per-MW and bond-to-lease figures are our calculations from reported terms. Capex and forward-revenue figures marked “call only” come from earnings calls, conferences and investor days, not filed results. Guidance ranges and fiscal-year definitions differ between companies and are not like-for-like. Rows in “Where each name stands” with no new disclosure are carried forward from previous editions. Before publication, an independent verification pass re-fetched every Monday close, the Taiwan and Korea closes, the Digital Drive bond terms and arithmetic, the Meta and Shopify items, the Starship date, the summit arrangements and all BRT conversions. It corrected three things: Wells Fargo’s rating on Meta is Overweight, not Buy; Arm traded 12.93m shares on Monday, not about 11m; and the Trump–Xi summit and state dinner are both on Thursday 24 September, within a state visit running 23–25 September. It also added that AMD is the fourth US chipmaker to reach $1tn, and that Blue Owl’s co-sponsors on Digital Drive are Cedarwood and PowerHouse Data Centers. The 09:45 BRT futures snapshot and the 15:40 BRT intraday quotes are point-in-time and cannot be re-verified after the fact. Nothing here is investment advice.
