Broadcom reports Wednesday, and the question is one number it refused to raise last quarter

CoreValue Coverage Brief - daily newsletter

The one thing

Broadcom reports fiscal Q3 on Wednesday 2 September, and the number that matters is not the quarter. Consensus is roughly $29.4bn of revenue with AI semiconductor revenue guided to $16bn, more than half the total and over 200% higher year on year. But last quarter Broadcom declined to raise its fiscal-2027 AI target of “in excess of $100bn” and the stock fell 12.6% on a beat. With $30bn of Q2 AI bookings against $10.8bn shipped, the backlog is not the constraint. Whether management moves that FY27 number is the read on whether the order book is still lengthening — and it lands three days after Nvidia guided fiscal 2028 growth to 70% against the 44% the street carried.

Reports Wednesday with a $60bn AI backlog and an unraised FY27 target

AVGO · 2 Sep

Consensus sits at about $29.43bn revenue and $2.55 GAAP EPS. AI semiconductor revenue is guided to $16bn for the quarter. Last quarter revenue grew 48% with AI semis up 143%, and Q2 AI bookings of over $30bn against $10.8bn shipped implied visibility into fiscal 2028 — yet the refusal to lift the “in excess of $100bn” FY2027 AI figure cost the stock 12.6%.

The read: bookings-to-shipped of roughly 3x is the cleanest corroboration in your coverage that hyperscaler orders are being placed, not just guided. It is the demand-side counterpart to the AI Bubble Radar’s tripwire 1 — if capacity growth were outrunning real demand, this ratio is where it would show first.

Fiscal 2028 growth guided to 70% against a 44% street

NVDA · 27 Aug

Shares rose 8.7% on the print. The gap between guided and expected growth is 26 points.

The read: read alongside the 10-Q you have already dissected — DSO from 45 to 60 days in one quarter, $44.1bn of receivables across five customers. Guidance that far above consensus is only worth what the collection is; the vendor-financing channels are the discount rate on it.

July revenue NT$467.6bn, +44.7% y/y — seven months at +37.0%

TSM · 10 Aug

Verified against TSMC’s own monthly-revenue page: July NT$467,580m, up 44.7% year on year and 5.6% on June. January–July totals NT$2,872,064m, up 37.0%. June was the outlier at +67.9%. August will print on or about 10 September, 02:30 BRT.

The read: the monthly series is decelerating from June’s +67.9% while remaining far above the full-year guide of “over 40%”. Two more months at July’s rate would put the year comfortably through guidance — the question for the TSMC study is whether the June spike was a pull-forward rather than a run rate.

2027 low-NA EUV and immersion capacity to expand about 30%

ASML · Jul–Aug

2026 revenue guided to €43–45bn with Q3 at €11–12bn.

The read: a capacity decision, not an order. ASML expanding tool output ~30% is the supply-side commitment that has to precede the fab capex — it sits directly on your Semiconductor Fab bundle, and it is a longer-dated signal than anything in the monthly numbers.

10-Q filed for the quarter ended 1 August

MRVL · 28 Aug

The statutory filing behind the 27 August release — record revenue, Data Center growth accelerating to 46%, and raised outlooks for both FY2027 and FY2028.

The read: raising FY2028 alongside FY2027 is a supplier saying the order book got longer, not just deeper. Note the two-class EPS basis after the March 2026 preferred issue — any Marvell per-share series straddling that date is on two bases.

CFO succession: Rivian’s Claire McDonough, with ~$19.5m of make-whole

GEV · 27 Aug

Kenneth Parks retires 2 April 2027; McDonough joins 1 November as strategic advisor and becomes CFO on 1 January 2027. Package: $1.0m base, 100% target bonus, a $5.225m 2027 LTIP award, plus a one-time $14.5m make-whole LTIP and a $5.0m cash sign-on. Full-year revenue guidance was raised to $44.5–45.5bn.

The read: roughly $19.5m to move one CFO into the datacentre-power constraint. The cost of senior finance talent in that part of the value chain is now visible in a filing rather than inferred — a hard number for the power-bottleneck thread.

SaaS & enterprise software

Up more than 22% — Agentforce ARR $1.5bn, Slackbot past 1m users

CRM · 27 Aug

Revenue ahead of consensus. Agentforce ARR reached $1.5bn; Slackbot passed 1m active users five months after launch, the fastest-adopted product in company history.

The read: hold this against the balance sheet in the same 10-Q — total debt $14.4bn to $39.3bn in six months, treasury stock up $22.8bn, goodwill up only $1.3bn. A 22% rally on AI ARR, funded by a debt-financed buyback that shrank the share count 14.7% while operating income was flat. Both facts are true and only one is in the headline.

Up 20.5% — revenue $1.47bn, +26%, outlook raised

CRWD · 27 Aug

Adjusted EPS $0.31 against $0.29 expected. In the 10-Q, R&D grew 29.7% against a 25.8% top line while sales and marketing grew 14.2%, and the $5.3m of GAAP net income came entirely from $43.9m of interest income against a $33.2m operating loss.

The read: the published CrowdStrike initiation still carries a forecast 1Q27 column and a modelled SaaS KPI block that were never replaced. Two quarters of filed FY2027 actuals now exist to close that out — this is the cheapest correction available in the catalogue.

Revenue $2,649m, +12.8%; net income nearly tripled; new $4.0bn buyback

WDAY · 27 Aug

Net income $632m against $228m. Under Item 8.01 the board authorised a $4.0bn repurchase programme with no expiration date.

The read: two large buyback authorisations in this sector in one cycle, with Salesforce’s $25bn ASR already running. Enterprise software is converting balance sheet into share count while the semis in the same sweep convert it into capacity — that contrast is a publishable frame on its own.

Up 8.5%, extending a month-long run of +35.2%

MDB · 27 Aug

Trading close to a 52-week high of $472.29.

The read: MongoDB has just been published into the SaaS & Software bundle. A 35% month on the AI application build-out is the demand-side read on the data layer — the tier that benefits whether or not any single model wins.

Ads & adtech

Teen-safety settlement — and the headline number is not all committed

META · 26–29 Aug

Meta settled state child-safety claims and agreed new platform controls. Sources disagree on the amount: CNN and TIME report $18bn, NPR $17bn, CNBC $16.7bn. The structure reconciles them: about $12.7bn — 70% — is payable over the next decade, and the remaining $5.3bn is conditional on YouTube and TikTok adopting similar or stricter settings, including a one-hour daily limit.

The read: the reporting spread is the story. A settlement quoted at $18bn where $5.3bn depends on competitors’ product decisions is not an $18bn liability, and the cash profile is a decade long. For a model, the committed number is $12.7bn spread over ten years — and the conditional tranche is effectively Meta buying an option on industry-wide regulation.

Consumer platforms & commerce

10-Q filed for the quarter ended 31 July

WMT · 28 Aug

Routine quarterly report; no priority item codes in the filing sweep.

The read: nothing to act on. Noted only so the sector is not silently absent.

Story worth owning

“Two ways to spend a balance sheet.” In a single week your coverage produced both extremes and nobody has put them side by side. Salesforce added $24.8bn of debt in six months with goodwill up only $1.3bn — the money bought its own stock, shrinking the share count 14.7% while operating income stayed flat. Workday authorised another $4.0bn. Meanwhile Broadcom carries a $60bn AI backlog with bookings at roughly 3x shipments, Nvidia guides fiscal 2028 to 70% growth, and TSMC is running 37% ahead year to date.

Enterprise software is converting balance sheet into share count; semiconductors are converting it into capacity. Both are levering up, and only one is building something. That distinction is exactly the control case the AI Bubble Radar’s debt-share-of-capex tripwire needs — it separates “the sector is borrowing to build” from “money is cheap and everyone is borrowing”. No independent research has drawn that line, and you have the filings on both sides.
